About Doctor

Dr. Shalina Ray

DLO, MS (ENT), MRCS (UK), DOHNS (UK).

My journey as a doctor started in 1997 when I joined as an ENT trainee at BJ Medical College Ahmedabad. From then on it has been an exciting path from the dissection laboratories to the operating theatre, with every centre I trained in providing me with the experience and training in the different branches of otolaryngology.

After qualifying as an ENT surgeon in the year 2000, I joined as a Head and Neck Clinical Fellow at Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai. I then further consolidated my training by working for the NHS in England, where I did my surgical training at Luton &Dunstable University Hospitals from 2002 to 2008 and completing my MRCS and DOHNS degrees.

FAQs

You should consult an ENT specialist if you have persistent problems related to the ears, nose, throat, voice, balance, or head and neck that do not improve with routine treatment or continue to recur.

An ENT surgeon evaluates and treats a wide range of conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, voice box, salivary glands, neck, and related structures, using both medical and surgical treatment when required.

Not every ENT condition requires surgery. After a detailed examination and appropriate investigations, your doctor will recommend surgery only if it is considered the most effective treatment option.

Minimally invasive ENT procedures generally involve smaller incisions or endoscopic techniques, which may result in less discomfort, reduced bleeding, faster healing, and a quicker return to normal activities.

Carry your previous medical records, hearing tests, imaging reports, prescriptions, allergy history, and details of any previous ENT treatments or surgeries to help your doctor make an accurate assessment.

Yes. ENT specialists diagnose and treat ear, nose, and throat conditions in both children and adults, with treatment plans tailored according to the patient’s age and medical condition.

Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may recommend hearing assessments, nasal endoscopy, laryngoscopy, imaging studies, allergy evaluation, or other investigations to reach an accurate diagnosis.

Your doctor will provide detailed pre-procedure instructions, which may include fasting, medication adjustments, required investigations, and guidance on postoperative care to ensure a safe and smooth treatment process.

Recovery depends on the type of procedure, your overall health, and the condition being treated. Your ENT specialist will explain the expected recovery timeline and follow-up schedule based on your treatment.

Early diagnosis helps identify underlying conditions before they become more severe, allowing timely treatment and reducing the risk of complications while improving overall treatment outcomes.
